Michael Smith

Michael Smith has 15 years experience in the oil field both onshore and offshore domestic and internationally in 16 countries. He is retired military after 27 years as a Navy Corpsman assigned to a USMC recon unit, last 3 years of which were with the Texas Army National Guard as the unit’s Aviation Safety NCO. Michael completed the Well Control School/Supervisory Drilling and has spent seven years working on major capital projects in West Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, Mexico, South America, and Germany. He has experience in TapRoot advanced accident investigations, OSHA 501 Train the Trainer, Energy Training Council Train the Trainer, HSE Trainer in numerous other areas. Design & Implementation of HSE Programs, Design & Implementation of HSE Training. 

Dustin Smith

Dustin is a veteran of the Texas Army National Guard having served in Basra, Iraq.  He has worked in the oilfield for the past 5 years. He is a Select Instructor with EMS Safety Services and has trained over 500 individuals. He is an ETC certified SafeLandUSA Orientation Instructor, is a Certified H2S Instructor and currently working on his Certification to teach Enform's H2S Alive.  Dustin is our Lead Collector for our Drug and Alcohol Testing services. He is also a DOT Certified Breath Alcohol Technician. 

Kathy Smith

Kathy works with her husband, Michael Smith, as his administrative assistant at Harvard Marine Petroleum Training Institute. Kathy is responsible for scheduling, invoicing, payroll and teaching. She is a SafeLand Trainer and has attended the Energy Training Council Instructor Course for Hydrogen Sulfide.

Kathy grew up in Floresville, Texas. She attended San Antonio College and the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has worked as a legal secretary, administrative assistant, bookkeeper and fundraiser. Prior to joining Harvard Marine, Kathy spent 20 years working in various capacities at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Canyon Lake, Texas.

Derick Akana

With over 10 years in the oil and gas industry, Derick started his career with construction, moved to drilling, into production (FPSO) and later worked with an oil and gas service company. Quality management system auditor certificate number QF-N/12/SA/0053 with numerous train the trainer certifications. He speaks English, French and Spanish.
